Israel’s resilience is measured not only by its security institutions, but also by the ability of ordinary families and businesses to keep going through extraordinary disruption. A recent report highlighted the work of the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) in supporting Israeli small businesses through a dedicated loan fund established after the October 7, 2023 attacks.
According to The Jerusalem Post, the Israel Small Business Loan Fund has provided $240 million in loans. It was created as part of JFNA’s Israel Emergency Campaign, which raised more than $900 million. The figures represent a significant effort to help businesses maintain operations, protect jobs, and contribute to the recovery of local communities.
Small businesses are essential to the fabric of Israeli society. They provide livelihoods, serve neighborhoods, sustain tourism and commerce, and help communities retain a sense of normal life. When a business can reopen, retain employees, or secure working capital, the impact extends beyond its owners.
This is also a powerful example of Jewish peoplehood in action. Diaspora communities did not limit their response to statements of solidarity; they mobilized resources to support people facing immediate economic challenges. Such efforts demonstrate how relationships between Israel and Jewish communities around the world can produce practical outcomes.
Christians who support Israel can learn from this model by supporting reputable relief organizations, local businesses, and initiatives that strengthen communities. Long-term solidarity requires more than words: it requires sustained partnership and a commitment to helping people rebuild.
