September 10, 2026 — As Jewish communities in the United States prepared for the High Holy Days, reporting described heightened concern about antisemitic threats, security at synagogues and divisions within the wider community.
Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are among the most significant moments in the Jewish religious calendar. They are days of reflection, repentance, prayer and communal gathering. Jewish families should be able to observe them without fear of threats or intimidation.
Christian neighbors can offer meaningful support in practical ways: checking in with Jewish friends, respecting the significance of the holidays, speaking out against antisemitism and supporting reasonable security measures for vulnerable institutions.
Solidarity should not be conditional on agreement about every political issue. Jewish communities are diverse, and Jewish people should never be treated as responsible for the actions of a government or for the views of other Jews.
For Christians, the Hebrew Scriptures are foundational to the faith. Learning about Jewish holidays and traditions can deepen understanding and help build relationships rooted in respect.
