A 52-Country Statement at the UN: A Wider Coalition Against Antisemitism

September 30, 2026 — The World Jewish Congress welcomed a statement by 52 countries at the United Nations Human Rights Council addressing the need to combat antisemitism. The announcement offered a reminder that confronting anti-Jewish hatred is an international responsibility.

Multilateral statements matter when they are followed by practical action. Governments can protect Jewish institutions, improve reporting and prosecution of hate crimes, educate students about antisemitism and challenge incitement. They can also work with technology companies to address online threats that target Jewish people.

For Israel and Jewish communities worldwide, international recognition of antisemitism is important. But the fight against hatred should not be reduced to diplomatic language or used as a substitute for careful policy debate. Criticism of a government is not automatically antisemitic; targeting Jews as Jews, denying their equal rights or applying discriminatory standards because they are Jewish is.

Christian leaders can reinforce this distinction in churches and public life. They can stand with Jewish neighbors, teach responsibly and reject conspiracy theories and collective blame.

A broad coalition is valuable when it leads to consistent protection and a culture in which Jewish people can live openly and safely.
