Gaza’s Future Requires Security, Reconstruction and a Realistic Plan

August 17, 2026 — Discussions between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. envoy Jared Kushner focused on the next stage of planning for Gaza, including security, reconstruction and urgent sanitation needs. Reporting on the meeting described working groups addressing demilitarization and public-health infrastructure.

The central challenge is straightforward but difficult: rebuilding cannot produce lasting stability if armed groups retain the ability to launch attacks. At the same time, sanitation, clean water and basic services are not optional extras. They matter to ordinary families and to the health and security of the wider region.

A serious plan must reject the false choice between Israel’s security and a better future for Gaza’s civilians. It must prevent Hamas and other armed groups from reconstituting military control, establish accountable governance and ensure that reconstruction materials are used for civilian purposes.

Christian supporters of Israel can advocate for a future in which Israeli communities live free from terror and Palestinian civilians can rebuild their lives. That requires moral clarity about terrorism, practical attention to humanitarian needs and sustained international accountability.
